In case the news has not reached you, I am writing to let you know that Albert Able, Hon. Treasurer of the Jersey Shooting Federation, died on Sunday, 22nd September.
Albert had the extraordinary record of having been the Treasurer of the Jersey Shooting Federation since its formation in 1974, a staggering innings of 39 years. He also represented Jersey as both a competitor and an official in various CSF Championships. He was also a crucial member of the small SuperShot Challenge organising team ever since it started in 1990 and behind many earlier similar events. If you were in this year’s very successful SuperShot in June, you may have caught a glimpse of him when, despite being extremely ill, he paid us a flying visit to check that all was under control.
Albert had a full and interesting life as a boat-builder, stockbroker, hotelier, author and, with his wife Cindy, running a successful fitted curtain business.
He was a good, “able” and entertaining man. Albert’s family have suffered a grievous loss. The JSF – and I personally – have lost a good friend and an invaluable colleague.
The funeral will be at 12.00 on Wednesday, 2nd October, at Gorey Church. Family flowers only; donations to Jersey Hospice (www.jerseyhospicecare.com).
